From Tianjin University, pioneering the era of green new materials with bamboo-derived nanocellulose

Tianjin Sustainable Novel Materials Co., Ltd. was established in April 2023 as a high-tech enterprise transformed from the research team of Tianjin University's College of Marine Science. As one of the first companies to settle in Tianjin Tiankai High-Tech Park, the company is led by Chairman Dr. Liu Zhaohui, a postdoctoral researcher, with a dedicated team focusing on green manufacturing of bamboo-derived nanocellulose.

The company focuses on green and scalable manufacturing of bamboo-derived nanocellulose, breaking through industry bottlenecks such as high energy consumption, high water consumption, and product control difficulties. We have built the world's largest food-grade nanocellulose production line with an annual capacity of 30,000 tons, committed to the mission of "Bamboo for Plastic" to provide sustainable solutions for food preservation, medical beauty, industrial coatings, and environmental protection.

In 2024, operating revenue exceeded 10 million RMB. The company has been successively recognized as a National High-Tech Enterprise, Tianjin Eagle Enterprise, Tianjin Sci-Tech SME, and Tianjin Innovative SME, and won the Silver Award in the Green and Low-Carbon Track of the BRICS Industrial Innovation Competition.

The world's first nanocellulose fruit and vegetable preservative forms an edible, washable nano-film on the surface of fruits and vegetables, isolating oxygen and retaining moisture. At room temperature, it can extend the freshness period by 1-3 times, and under temperature and humidity control, fruits and vegetables can be preserved for 1-4 months, at only one-tenth the cost of traditional cold chain.
